1976
結成
1975年、立教大学交響楽団OBにより、合唱団の依頼に応えるかたちでヘンデル《メサイア》祝祭オーケストラとして結成しました。
その後、半年の準備期間を経て1976年7月1日に、フィルハーモニックアンサンブル管弦楽団として誕生しました。
In 1975, alumni of the Rikkyo University Symphony Orchestra formed the Handel Messiah Festival Orchestra in response to a request from a choir.
After a six-month period of preparation, the ensemble was officially established on July 1, 1976, as the Philharmonic Ensemble Orchestra.
1979
記念すべき第１回演奏会を開催
3年間は演奏会を開かず、基礎的な曲の練習やテープコンサートを開催していました。練習に10名前後しか集まらなかったり、2ヶ月あまり練習がなくなったりという状況に直面したこともありました。
そのようなことも乗り越え、第１回演奏会を第一生命ホールで開催しました。指揮は、長瀬清正氏。ベートーベンの「コリオラン」序曲、チャイコフスキー「白鳥の湖」、ドヴォルザーク 「交響曲第８番」というプログラムでした。
For the first three years, the orchestra did not present any formal concerts. Instead, it focused on practicing fundamental repertoire and organizing tape concerts. At times, only around ten members attended rehearsals, and there were even periods when rehearsals ceased for more than two months.
Overcoming these difficulties, the orchestra finally held its First Concert at the Dai-ichi Seimei Hall. The concert was conducted by Mr. Kiyomasa Nagase. The program featured Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8.
1980
第3回演奏会
ワーグナー、ドビュッシーに初めて取り組みました。
I have started working on Wagner and Debussy for the first time.
1981
第5回演奏会まで長瀬清正氏が指揮を務めました
この頃は、当時、千代田区平河町にあった、都市センターホールで開催していました。
Mr. Kiyomasa Nagase conducted the orchestra through its fifth performance.
During this period, performances took place at Toshi Center Hall.
1985
第10回演奏会
第6回演奏会から、指揮は河地良智氏が務めています（1982年より音楽監督）。第10回演奏会のソリストは、津堅直弘氏(元NHK交響楽団トランペット奏者)。演奏曲は、フンメル 「トランペット協奏曲」、ブラームス「 交響曲第４番」などでした。
From the sixth concert onward, the orchestra has been conducted by Mr. Yoshinor Kawachi.
The soloist for the tenth concert was Mr. Naohiro Tsuken (former trumpet player of the NHK Symphony Orchestra).
The program included Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto and Brahms’s Symphony No. 4, among other works.
1985
結成10年記念演奏会を開催
河地良智氏の指揮で第九をゆうぽうとホールで演奏しました。
A 10th Anniversary Concert was held, featuring performances such as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 under the baton of Mr. Yoshinori Kawachi.
1987
開館直後のサントリーホールで演奏会を開催
1986年にサントリーホールが開館。翌年の1987年に第14回演奏会を、1988年に第16回演奏会をサントリーホールで実施しました。
Following the opening of Suntory Hall in 1986, the orchestra presented its 14th concert there in 1987 and its 16th concert in 1988.
1990
第19回演奏会では、サントリーホールで
マーラー：交響曲第2番「復活」を演奏
指揮は、河地良智氏が務めました。今後も「復活を」PEOは国内外で、何度も挑戦していくことになり、深い縁のある曲になります。この演奏会をきっかけに、ディンパニを10台保有、5弦のコントラバスを揃えるなど、オーケストラの組織体制も含め、成長していきました。
Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection” was performed at Suntory Hall under the direction of Mr. Yoshinori Kawachi.
Following this concert, the PEO went on to perform this work many times both in Japan and abroad, and it became a piece with which the orchestra developed a deep and lasting connection.
Prompted by this performance, the orchestra also grew in its organizational and artistic capacity, including expanding its resources to ten timpani and acquiring five-string double basses.
1992
カザルスホールシリーズ開始
小松一彦指揮でカザルスホール（東京・御茶ノ水）での演奏会シリーズを行ないました。
We presented a concert series at Casals Hall (Ochanomizu, Tokyo) under the baton of Kazuhiko Komatsu.
1992
カーネギーホールで演奏
初めての海外演奏会は、アメリカで実施しました。フィラデルフィアおよびニューヨークのカーネギーホールで公演。日本を代表するジャズピアニスト山下洋輔氏とガーシュイン「ラプソディ・イン・ブルー」を共演しました。

The orchestra’s first overseas concert tour took place in the United States, with performances in Philadelphia and at Carnegie Hall in New York.
The program included collaborations with leading Japanese jazz pianist Yosuke Yamashita, performing works such as Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

1995
結成20年記念演奏会をサントリーホールで開催
指揮は小松一彦氏が務め、メゾソプラノにエレナ・オブラスツォワ氏、オルガンに青谷充子氏を迎えました。サルミエントス の「ひろしまのピカ」を東京初演し、サン・サーンスの交響曲 第3番 ハ短調「オルガン付き」などを演奏しました。
The 20th Anniversary Concert was held at Suntory Hall. The performance was conducted by Kazuhiko Komatsu, with mezzo-soprano Elena Obraztsova and organist Mitsuko Aotani as guest artists. The program included the Tokyo premiere of Hiroshima no Pika by Sarmientos, as well as Saint-Saëns’s Symphony No. 3 in C minor, “Organ,” among other works.
1995
小山市制40周年記念
モーツアルト「レクイエム」を演奏
指揮は音楽監督の大町陽一郎氏が務めました。小山市立文化センターで開催されました。
As part of the celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of Oyama City, a performance of Mozart’s Requiem was given at the Oyama City Cultural Center, conducted by Music Director Yoichiro Omachi.
1997
ベルリンフィルのトランペット奏者コンラディン・グロート氏を招いて演奏会を開催
第28回演奏会は、ハイドンのトランペット協奏曲を共演。1993年には、トランペットクリニックも実施しました。
We invited Mr. Konradin Groth of the Berlin Philharmonic to give a concert. At the 28th concert, he appeared as a soloist in Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto. In 1993, he also conducted a trumpet clinic.
1997
TV出演「上岡・ヒロミの花も嵐も」
フジテレビ系列で日曜日12時に放送されていた情報トーク番組に出演。「オーケストラに挑戦！！」という企画で指揮者小松一彦氏と出演しました。
The orchestra appeared on the television program Kamioka & Hiromi no Hana mo Arashi mo in a special feature titled “Challenge the Orchestra!!,” alongside conductor Mr. Kazuhiko Komatsu.
1998
コンラディン・グロート氏と
トランペット協奏曲集をレコーディング
ベルリンフィルハーモニー管弦楽団のグロート氏とレコーディング。指揮は大友直人氏が務めました。
The orchestra recorded a CD of trumpet concertos with Mr. Grot of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Naoto Otomo.
1998
ウィーン楽友協会大ホールで演奏
２回目の海外演奏会は、ウィーンで実施しました。指揮者は小松一彦氏。ドヴォルザーク「交響曲第8番」、武満徹 「マイ・ウェイ・オブ・ライフ」、J.サルミエントス「ひろしまのピカ」などを演奏しました。
The orchestra performed at the Great Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, marking its second overseas concert tour, held in Vienna.
The concert was conducted by Mr. Kazuhiko Komatsu and featured works including Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, Tōru Takemitsu’s My Way of Life, and J. Sarmientos’s Hiroshima no Pika.
2000
ウィーン楽友協会公演が
雑誌「音楽の友」に掲載
ウィーン公演の準備は、本番直前までトラブルが多く苦労が多かったのですが、その内容や海外公演を行なうにあたってのポイントが、雑誌「音楽の友」に掲載されました。

Preparations for the Vienna performance were fraught with difficulties, with numerous problems arising right up until the performance itself. The details of these challenges, as well as key points to consider when undertaking overseas performances, were published in the magazine Ongaku no Tomo.

2000
北京二十一世紀劇場で特別演奏会を実施
マリンバ奏者安倍圭子氏と共演し、指揮の大友直人氏とともに安倍氏の自作曲を紹介しました。
A special concert was presented at the Beijing 21st Century Theatre.
Collaborating with marimba soloist Keiko Abe, the orchestra introduced her own compositions under the direction of conductor Naoto Otomo.
2002
ベルリン・フィルハーモニーホールで演奏
三枝成彰作曲のカンタータ「天涯」を大友直人氏の指揮で海外初演しました。
The orchestra performed at the Berlin Philharmonie, where it gave the overseas premiere of Shigeaki Saegusa’s cantata Tengai under the direction of Naoto Otomo.
2002
奏楽堂演奏会シリーズを開始
旧音楽学校奏楽堂での演奏会を開始しました。指揮は、第1回から井戸田善之氏が務めています。
Concerts at the Former Tokyo Music School Concert Hall were launched, with Mr. Yoshiyuki Itota serving as conductor from the very first performance.
2003
オラフ・オット氏とトロンボーン協奏曲集をレコーディング
ベルリンフィルハーモニー管弦楽団のオット氏とレコーディングを行いました。指揮はカルロス・シュピーラー氏が務めました。
The orchestra recorded a CD of trombone concertos with Mr. Ott of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Carlos Spierer.
2004
レオンカヴァッロのオペラ「ラ・ボエーム」全幕を日本初演
音楽監督は三枝成彰氏、演出は伊藤隆浩氏。ゆうぽうとホール（東京五反田）で開催しました。
Leoncavallo’s opera La Bohème was presented in its entirety in its Japanese premiere.
Nariaki Saegusa served as Music Director, and the performance was held at Yūpōto Hall (Gotanda, Tokyo).

ベルリンフィルの首席トロンボーン奏者オラフ・オット氏を招いて演奏会を開催
紀尾井ホールで開催。大友直人氏の指揮で、ダヴィッドのコンチェルティーノなどを演奏しました。
Concert at Kioi Hall with Mr. Olaf Ott, principal trombonist of the Berlin Philharmonic; conducted by Naoto Otomo, performing David’s Concertino, among other works.
2007
ブダペスト・ウィーン特別演奏会
小林研一郎氏の指揮で、芸術宮殿ナショナル・コンサートホールやホーフブルク・フェストザールで演奏しました。
A special Budapest–Vienna concert tour was presented under the baton of Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi, with performances at the Palace of Arts National Concert Hall and the Hofburg Festsaal.
2007
結成30年記念演奏会
ソプラノの森麻季氏を迎え、R.シュトラウス「４つの最後の歌」を共演。小松一彦氏の指揮で、アルプス交響曲を演奏しました。
30th Anniversary Concert: Featuring soprano Ms. Maki Mori, we performed R. Strauss’s Four Last Songs. Conducted by Kazuhiko Komatsu, the program also included Strauss’s An Alpine Symphony.
2009
コンセルトヘボウ・サマーコンサートに招聘
小林研一郎指揮でマーラーの交響曲第2番「復活」を演奏。満席の聴衆からスタンディング・オベーションを受けました。
The orchestra was invited to the Concertgebouw Summer Concert, where it performed Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection” under the baton of Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi.
The performance received a standing ovation from a sold-out audience.

第50回演奏会
サントリーホールで、マーラー「交響曲第3番」をカルロス・シュピーラーの指揮で演奏

六本木男声合唱団と東京カテドラル聖マリア大聖堂・ミラノ ドゥオーモで共演
三枝成彰「レクイエム～曾野綾子のリブレットによる」、「天涯8番」などを演奏しました。指揮は大友直人氏。
Collaboration with the Roppongi Men’s Chorus at Tokyo Cathedral St. Mary’s and the Milan Duomo; performing works including Saegusa’s Requiem (libretto by Ayako Sono) and Tengai No. 8.
2011
東日本大震災の被災地支援チャリティコンサート開催
8月27日にすみだトリフォニーホールにて開催。指揮は小林研一郎氏。チェロにヴラダン・コチ氏を迎えました。
A charity concert was held to support the regions affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
2012
ルドルフィヌム・ドヴォルザークホール（チェコ／プラハ）で演奏会を開催
指揮は小林研一郎氏。ヴラダン・コチ氏（チェロ）、小林亜矢乃氏（ピアノ）、村上和邦氏（ヴァイオリン）と共演しました。ベートーヴェン「トリプルコンチェルト」などを演奏。当日の演奏は、オクタヴィアレコードより録音がCD化。「レコード芸術」で宇野功芳氏推薦盤に選ばれました。
Concert at the Rudolfinum (Dvořák Hall), Prague; conducted by Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi. Performed Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with Vladan Koci (cello), Ayano Kobayashi (piano), and Kazukuni Murakami (violin). Live recording released by Octavia Records; selected as a recommended recording by Isao Uno in Record Geijutsu.

指揮は矢崎彦太郎氏。ピアノにパスカル・ドュヴァイオン氏を迎え、ラフマニノフ「ピアノ協奏曲第３番」を共演。ラヴェル「マ・メール・ロワ」を中井美穂氏のナレーション付で演奏しました。

ホルンのカテジナ・ヤヴールコヴァ氏を迎え、R.シュトラウス「ホルン協奏曲第1番」などを演奏しました。
Concert at Smetana Hall (Czech Republic) with Kateřina Javůrková (horn), performing R. Strauss’s Horn Concerto No. 1, among other works.
2020
小林研一郎指揮／サントリーホール
スメタナ「わが祖国」全曲演奏
2002年、スメタナホールで行われた「プラハの春」国際音楽祭のオープニング・コンサートにて、東洋人指揮者として初めてチェコ・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団を率い『わが祖国』全曲を指揮し、熱狂的なスタンディング・オベーションを巻き起こした小林研一郎氏。小林氏との「わが祖国」全曲演奏は、大きな挑戦とも言える演奏会でした。
In 2002, at the opening concert of the Prague Spring International Music Festival held at Smetana Hall, Mr. Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi made history as the first Asian conductor to lead the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in a complete performance of Má vlast, earning an ecstatic standing ovation. This concert at Suntory Hall represented a bold and ambitious undertaking for the PEO.
2020
第68回演奏会が新型コロナウイルス感染拡大により中止
指揮は飯森範親氏、独唱は梅津碧氏の予定でした。R.シュトラウスの交響詩「ドン・ファン」 、「6つの歌曲」、マーラー の「交響曲第４番」を演奏予定でした。
We regret to announce that the 68th Concert has been canceled due to the spread of COVID-19.
2023
第74回演奏会は、指揮者に秋山和慶氏を迎えました
秋山和慶氏は、2025年に肺炎のため、逝去されました（享年84）。本来であれば、第77回演奏会・［結成50年記念］第79回演奏会の指揮を務めていただくはずでした。心より追悼いたします。
Maestro Kazuyoshi Akiyama served as the conductor for the 74th Concert.
He passed away from pneumonia in 2025 at the age of 84.
He was originally expected to conduct the 77th and 79th concerts.
2025
矢祭小学校開校10周年記念コンサート
10年前の校歌お披露目コンサート開催から、再び矢祭小学校で演奏させていただく機会をいただきました。校歌やドヴォルザーク「交響曲第9番」より第4楽章などを演奏しました。
Yamatsuri Elementary School 10th Anniversary Commemorative Concert
Ten years after the concert held to premiere the school song, we were honored to have the opportunity to perform once again at Yamatsuri Elementary School.
The program included the school song as well as the fourth movement of Symphony No. 9 by Antonín Dvořák, among other works.
2026
結成50年・第79回演奏会
結成50年を記念し演奏会を開催します。世界的に活躍するヴァイオリニスト三浦文彰氏をソリストに迎え、指揮には過去にも当団の音楽づくりを支えてくださった巨匠大友直人氏を迎えます。PEO結成50周年を彩る特別な公演です。4/11（土）は東京芸術劇場で、特別な夜をお過ごしください。
To commemorate our 50th anniversary, we are proud to present a special concert.
We are honored to welcome internationally acclaimed violinist Fumiaki Miura as the soloist, and Maestro Naoto Otomo, a distinguished conductor who has long supported and shaped our orchestra’s musical journey.
